Children’s data policy

Effective from 7 August 2026. Version 1.0.

LifeCraft exists to help a parent or guardian develop their child’s life readiness. Everything below describes what that means for the child’s information. This policy sits alongside our privacy policy and takes precedence wherever the two differ on anything concerning a person under 18.

Who holds the account

The account belongs to the parent or guardian, not the child. A child never receives their own login, password or email address from us. When a child uses the simplified mission view, they are inside the guardian’s signed-in session on the guardian’s device.

Where a learner is 18 or older and enrols themselves, they hold their own account and this policy does not apply to them.

What we collect about a child

DataWhy we hold it
First name or nicknameSo the guardian can tell their children apart in the app
Year of birthTo place the child in an age band. We deliberately do not collect the full date of birth
Mission activity and reflectionsTo track which missions were completed and what the child wrote about them
Observations recorded by the guardianTo calculate the Life Readiness Score and produce reports
Assessment answers and resultsTo establish a starting point, measure change over time, and improve the accuracy of the instrument
Optional evidence files uploaded by the guardianTo support an observation. These are private and never public

We do not collect a child’s email address, phone number, precise location, contacts, biometric data, or any government identifier.

What we never do

  • We never show advertising to a child, anywhere in the product.
  • We never build an advertising or marketing profile of a child, and we never allow anyone else to.
  • We never track a child across other websites or apps.
  • We never sell, rent or trade a child’s information.
  • We never rank a child against other children, publicly or privately. Progress is only ever compared against that same child’s own history.
  • We never make an automated decision that has a legal effect on a child.

Consent

Before we process anything about a child we ask the guardian for consent, separately for each purpose, and we record that consent with a timestamp and the version of this policy it was given against. Consent is recorded as an unchangeable ledger entry, so withdrawing consent adds a new record rather than erasing the history of what was agreed.

You can withdraw any consent at any time in Settings, then Data and privacy. Withdrawing consent stops the related processing. It does not undo processing that was lawful when it happened, and it does not affect anything you have already downloaded.

Sharing with a school or programme

If a school, college, NGO or government programme invites your child to a cohort, that is a separate consent which you grant explicitly and can withdraw at any time. When it is granted:

  • The institution sees your child’s progress within that cohort.
  • The institution never sees your household’s billing details or your other children.
  • One institution can never see another institution’s learners. This is enforced by the database itself, not only by the application.
  • Withdrawing the consent removes your child from the institution’s view.

How we use assessment and observation data

We use your child’s answers and observations to run the programme for them: to set a starting point, choose appropriate missions, calculate the score, and produce your reports.

We also use this information in aggregated and de-identified form to improve the framework and the accuracy of our scoring, and to publish research about life readiness in general. Aggregated means combined with many other records so that no individual child can be identified or singled out. We do not need, and do not ask for, consent to advertise on the basis of this data, because we never do that.

Where the data lives

Children’s records are stored on servers located in India. Backups are encrypted and also held in India. Where a service provider is involved in delivering the product, they act only on our instructions, are bound by contract, and are never permitted to use the data for their own purposes.

How long we keep it

  • While your account is active, we keep the child’s record so their history and score remain meaningful.
  • If you delete the child or close the account, we permanently delete the record within 30 days.
  • If an account stays inactive for 24 months we contact you, and if there is no response we delete the child’s record.
  • Consent records and security audit logs are kept for as long as the law requires us to be able to demonstrate what was agreed and what happened. These contain no mission content or observations.

Your rights as a guardian

On behalf of your child you can:

  • See everything we hold about them.
  • Download it as a file.
  • Correct anything that is wrong.
  • Withdraw any consent.
  • Have the record permanently deleted.
  • Complain to us, and then to the regulator if we do not resolve it.

Use Settings, then Data and privacy, or write to privacy@lifecraft.in. We respond within 30 days.

The law we follow

We process children’s data under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 in India, and we apply the same standards to families outside India. Where the General Data Protection Regulation applies in Europe, or the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act applies in the United States, we meet those requirements as well. Where they differ, we follow whichever is stricter.

Changes

If we change how we handle children’s data in any way that affects you, we will tell you before the change takes effect and, where the change requires it, ask for your consent again. Every version of this policy is retained so you can see what you originally agreed to.

How we handle children’s data

LifeCraft is operated by a parent or guardian on behalf of their child. We collect the minimum needed to run the programme, we never profile, track or advertise to minors, and we do not sell data to anyone. Records are stored in India and can be exported or permanently deleted from your account at any time. Processing follows the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, and GDPR and COPPA where they apply.

Signed in, go to Settings, then Data and privacy, to download everything we hold as a file or request permanent deletion. Deletion completes within 30 days and removes the child’s record, observations and any issued certificates. You can also email privacy@lifecraft.in and we will do it for you.
